My opinion is that it is. Because of what the book of 2 Thessalonians chapter 5 verse 22 says:( Abstain from all appearance of evil.) I may feel my faith is strong, but performing this style of music looks evil to other christians, no matter how stong my faith. And to the non-saved it looks worldly. And the book of 1 John chapter 2 verses 15 throu 17, say not to love the world. So the image i show to these un-saved is of the world. And we are to be as the light of God, so this act to me would be of darkness. What do you all think?

Hey, Faithful!

That's a question that has divided many churches. Let me give you something to research and maybe you will find the answer to your own question. I was a music major and studied composition. I don't remember ever studying anything called secular styles or secular forms of music. First, I think you have to define what that is so you have a clear understanding of your own question.

Secondly, show me in the Bible where it says that we may not use "secular forms" according to your definition in worship and praise.

Thirdly, ask, "How do we present an appearance of evil?" I believe that you will find that your church building is built out of the same materials as many bar rooms, that you use the same power generating company for electricity, that you use the same kind of sound equipment, and play your music on the same sort of instruments. Does that make you appear evil? No! But, we are not to do things that might cause someone to suspect that we are engaged in sins such as theft, deceit, sexual promiscuity, gossip etc.

The reason Jesus was so hard on the scribes and Pharisees was because they imposed all sorts of religious laws that had nothing to do with God's laws on their people. Don't get caught in the same legalistic trap.

Great question!
